Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bo Diddley, a terrifically eclectic pioneer of the genre who rightfully dubbed himself "the Originator," died June 2, 2008 at the age of 79. The guitarist and vocalist indelibly stamped the music with his syncopated "Diddley beat" first heard on his 1954 Chess Records single, the self-titled song "Bo Diddley."
