Detroit jazz masters at Iridium
Pianist Barry Harris, 78, and drummer Louis Hayes, 71, are two Detroit-born modern jazz greats who ended up in New York in the 1950s. For a brief spell, around 1958, they played together with saxophonist Cannonball Adderley.

Katka Garcia – Alfons Mucha’s cosmopolitan great-granddaughter
Katka Garcia, as her name suggests, is half Czech and half Spanish, with a bit of Russian thrown in. In addition to that she sings traditional music from Ireland and Scotland. She currently lives in Dublin and teaches Spanish at Trinity College and occasionally comes to Prague to perform with her fellow musicians. I caught up with her during her last visit.

Southern Girls Rock 'n' Roll camp returns to MTSU
Bolstered by an all-time record enrollment of 90 participants, the sixth annual Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp will shake up the MTSU campus July 14-19. As usual, the camp will culminate in a powerful showcase concert when the girls will form nearly 20 bands and show off their talents at 7 p.m. July 19, in the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building.
