This Pitchfork has a point

Mellencamp trying to make the 'write' transition
Although John Mellencamp was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the veteran doesn't consider himself a rocker -- at least not anymore. These days, Mellencamp uses the phrase "ex-rock star" to describe his place: "I am trying to make the transition from rock star to songwriter in public," he said.
