Region briefs: Vendors being sought for Zydeco event
NATCHITOCHES — Vendors are being sought for two Natchitoches Parish events coming up at month's end. On Aug. 29-30, which is Labor Day weekend, the parish will host the 9th annual Cane River Zydeco Festival and Poker Run on the downtown riverfront, and the village of Goldonna will have its annual Drake Salt Works Festival and Trail Ride.

Area fairs buck trend seen in big cities
While county and community fairs in some of Ohio's larger counties are struggling with attendance, the Waterford and Barlow fairs have not suffered. The attendance at the Waterford fair in 2007 was approximately 7,800, up from around 7,000 in 2006 and 6,900 in 2005, organizers said. These numbers do not include children 12 and under, who are admitted for free.
