Nobody here by that nameIf you were into rock music back in the early 1980s – seriously into it, that is – you may remember a hit song, "867-5309/Jenny." Not that it's among the all-time golden oldies, mind you, but it did serve to make that hypothetical phone number perhaps the most famous in the history of the genre. (If only because the recording by the band Tommy Tutone repeats it 20 times ...

200 years later - and still a star
You could say that Felix Mendelssohn lived just long enough to make himself misunderstood.Although the composer, pianist and conductor was hugely popular at the time of his death at the tender age of 38, no one knew quite what to make of the wunderkind: Was he a classicist or a romantic? Was he a Christian or a Jew? Was he a good husband or just a man with well-hidden secrets? ...

ECHOESJenn GrantSix Shooter Records***My favourite songs on this reflective album are also the least characteristic. Parachutes begins with a pensive anecdote in a small kitchen, then suddenly morphs into a surging doo-wop number that feels like a big old Chevy tearing toward Halifax. I Was Your Woman grinds out a rough, slurry bass riff, as Grant sings ''I heard your heart drop'' in a tone of ...

Record labels still wary of Apple's wrath
Apple's relationship with the major music labels has always been a bit rough around the edges. There's a history of head-butting between Jobs and the recording industry over issues like DRM and variable pricing, but the beef seemed at long last to be put to rest after the Macworld Expo keynote announcement that the record labels would finally give up DRM, while Apple would allow them the ...

Disturbed is down with El Paso; El Paso native rocks Coliseum
EL PASO - It was pretty low-key as homecomings go. Unless you consider a band playing at, oh, 30,000 decibels, a crowd of 3,500 stomping its feet and pounding its fists in lockstep low-key. That's pretty much how El Paso native John Moyer's return to his hometown went. Of course, the Austin-based Moyer has been the bassist for Chicago hard rockers Disturbed, arguably one of the hottest heavy ...
